While teaching math and science in French is fabulous, this leaves little room to teach French literacy. However, I aim to improve upon this, starting with “sound of the week,” a strategy I will implement to increase phonetic awareness.
The sound for this week is oi, which makes the wa sound. Oiseau is pronounced wazo, for example. For day one, students will highlight the sound, filling the sound, and determine which pictures use the sound. On the back, they will write 2-3 sentences using one of the vocabulary words with the sound oi. They may also use the word wall and dictionaries available for the sentences. I plan to track the progress.
